学会レポートシリーズ 2016年国際神経精神薬理学会
(CINP: The International College of Neuropsychopharmacology)

大阪薬科大学薬品作用解析学 伊波イーゴル

In the year of 2016, the 30th “The International College of Neuropsychopharmacology (CINP) World Congress of Neuropsychopharmacology” took place at the COEX convention center, in Seoul Korea (Fig. 1), a place with a nice and comfortable atmosphere (Fig. 2). At this meeting, differently from scientific meetings in Japan and Brazil, which I previously attended, presentations were in a lighter atmosphere than in Japan including some jokes or funny comments by the presenters, however, not as lighter as in Brazil where presenters sometimes interact directly with the audience. This lighter atmosphere has showed to be prompt for the participation of the students in the audience, students whom seemed lost their fear to ask very basic things, for example, many students made many questions and participate in discussion, even I made some questions and enjoyed discussions.

Regarding the content of the presentations, ketamine in different psychopathy treatments were discussed, including its side-effects (e.g., abusive use due hallucinogenic effects) and presenting new forms of improving classic therapy (e.g., blockading of muscarinic acetylcholine receptor 2 and 3 improved ketamine-effects on depression). Also, they presented clinical research data on benzoate chronic administration for Alzheimer disease and the effects of scopolamine in the affective illness. At the end, the presenter stated that tailored medicine still an important field, since they verified in patients responding or not to the benzoate or scopolamine treatments presented different pattern of genetic biomarkers.

For the last day, data on the main role of serotonin in the waiting for delayed reward process by dorsal striatum-Raphe nuclei pathway, then the use of galanin to improve depressing related effects and some topics on suicide, where they stressed difference in eastern high suicidal rate and westerns high schizophrenia and bipolar disorders showing that environmental effects should not be forgot when studying this subject. Finishing, a relation of suicide and violent people by showing evidences where violent people had a 3 fold higher attempt/success rate and that not only men are responsible to have 4 time fold higher suicidal (success) than women due their impulsivity. Interestingly, it also included other factors like socio-cultural stress, not being priority on government health programs, and not being so well-treated by psychiatrics as women as causation of this great difference.

In the poster section, I presented poster regarding the investigation of nicotine-induced seizures, from evoking convulsive seizures until finding the causative site of the later (Fig. 3). A presentation made on free-discussion style, most received questions were about the procedure of guide cannula placement in the amygdala region. Since microinjection experiment is hard and delicate process, it is a common question, however, unexpectedly at this time I was asked which part of work I was directly and indirectly involved and how those experiments were carried out, maybe because it was a great amount of data, but it was easy to explain since our laboratory work in groups of 6-8 students with responsibilities gave due how long they are used to perform experiments it. This work was granted with an award for excellent presentation at open ceremony dinner which presented a very classy and tasteful dinner.

Concluding this report, I may stress that the opportunity to present our work to experts of different parts of the world is a priceless opportunity to divulge and have our work evaluated by different people with different line of thoughts. International scientific meetings lead wide broad of new ideas and research network that are essential to new projects and even collaborations. Of course, any scientific meeting gave the opportunity to learn the new trends on scientific affairs and helps to direct the focus on research subjects, showing which scientific fields requires more attention and investigation, and those who does not need priority.
