International Sessions

The organizing committee of the 50th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons welcomes active pediatric surgeons from overseas to submit original abstracts in all clinical and basic science related research/experience on pediatric surgery. Abstracts will be selected as either oral or poster presentations during the International Sessions at the meeting. Presenting authors may submit a manuscript for consideration for publication in Pediatric Surgery International (PSI) the official journal of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons. Please see a copy of this year's PSI (Japanese Issue) or read the section on PSI (Japanese issue), 2013 regarding instruction for authors on manuscript submission for PSI.

As 50th anniversary of JSPS, we will specially have a number of joint-sessions with WOFAPS on the International Sessions, and request for some oral presentations.

Travel Grant

Surgeons from overseas under age of 40 who submit abstracts, as well as manuscripts for consideration for publication into PSI, the official journal of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons, can apply for the travel grant by the Abstract Submission Form. The maximum number of grants available is 10, and each grant will be worth US$1,000. For more detailed information, please read the section on Travel Grant.

Requested Topics

Every topic related to pediatric surgical management and basic science research will be considered and discussed but some topics are more favored. The following topics are given special attention and will be presented and discussed in special sessions.

1)  New evidences in the field of pediatric surgery
2)  Future prospects for pediatric endoscopic surgery
3)  Surgical intervention for extremely low birth weight infants (Excluding gastrointestinal perforation)
4)  Forefront of pediatric liver transplantation
5)  Problems in adult survivors with liver transplantation, diaphragmatic hernia or esophageal atresia
6)  Current status of minimally invasive surgery in pediatric urology
7)  Long-term prognosis of hydronephrosis
8)  Timings and outcomes of vaginoplasty
9)  Understanding of gastrointestinal allergy in “pediatric surgery”
10)  Surgery for patients with chromosomal abnormalities
11)  Present and future aspects of pediatric cancer research
12)  New trends in nutritional supports (parenteral nutrition/enteral nutrition)
13)  Topics of perinatal managements in pediatric surgery
14)  Latest Kampo treatments for pediatric surgical diseases
15)  Regenerative medicine in pediatric surgery
16)  Development of experimental animal models for pediatric surgical diseases and their evaluation
17)  Engineering based medicine in pediatric surgery
18)  Career support for pediatric surgeons
19)  Multi-institutional joint research in Japan
20)  Multidisciplinary team in pediatric surgery

Prepared sessions on special joint-sessions are shown below. We request 1 or 2 presentations from Asian countries for every session. All speakers must write review paper for Pediatric Surgery International.

Instruction for Authors

Presentation Style

  • Oral presentations
    Authors are to make a PC-style presentation. Animation and sound functions will be allowed. Please make sure that your presentation data runs on Windows Media Player and works with Microsoft Power Point. Other audio-visual equipment such as videotapes may not be used.
  • Poster presentations
    Posters should be brought to the congress and not mailed. Presenters are responsible for mounting and removing their own material.

Requirements

  • Abstracts must be written in English and contain a brief clear statement of conclusion.
  • The abstract title must be within 120 characters including spaces. Please include a brief title and clearly identify the nature of your study.
  • The abstract body should:
    - Be within 1600 characters (about 250 words) or less.
    - Include, a purpose, a brief description of methods if pertinent, a summary of results of your study and clearly stated conclusion.
    - Not include any charts, images or photographs.
  • All abstracts should be submitted with the abstract submission form (Microsoft Word format), which can be downloaded from this page. Please send your abstract to the secretariat at jsps50@asas.or.jp before the deadline.

  • Specify the type of presentation you prefer (oral or poster).

  • Accepted abstracts will be published and distributed at the congress.

Abstract Review and Selection

  • Abstracts will be reviewed and selected by the Scientific Program Committee.
  • Abstract acceptance or rejection notification will be e-mailed to the corresponding e-mail address of the presenting author around late-February, 2013.
