Pediatric Surgery International (JSPS Issue), 2014
Instructions for Manuscript Submission

Deadline for Full Papers: Papers must be received by 23:00 (Tokyo time) on the 9 March 2014. No exceptions given!

Only authors, whose submitted abstracts were selected for presentation at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons (JSPS), may submit their papers to be considered for publication in the Pediatric Surgery International (JSPS Issue). The style of presentation will not matter (any type of presentation will be considered) as long as it is selected for presentation at the 51st JSPS meeting.

*Important for JSPS 2014*

  • Abstracts that have been presented elsewhere (but not at any previous JSPS Meeting) but have not been previously published “WILL” be considered for presentation and publication into Pediatric Surgery International (PSI) (JSPS Issue)
  • Above mentioned abstracts must have been chosen for presentation at this year's JSPS meeting
  • Manuscripts that are pending publication or manuscripts that have been sent for publication consideration for other journals with results pending may NOT be submitted for publication consideration into PSI (JSPS Issue)

Please make sure you have read and followed the guidelines for “SUBMISSION SUMMARY” at the bottom of the page BEFORE submitting your manuscript.

The deadline for submission is 23:00 (Tokyo time) Sunday 9 March 2014. Full papers must be submitted ELECTRONICALLY to the PSI (JSPS Issue) Publication Committee office. The papers selected for publication will be determined by the Publications Committee. Decisions on publications are subject to peer review and page limitations. Thus, there is no guarantee that submitted manuscripts will be published. IRB and Animal Care assurances, including the IRB or Animal Care application number, should be provided.

All papers MUST follow the ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION guidelines and format of Pediatric Surgery International which can be found under “Instructions for Authors” here: http://www.springer.com/medicine/pediatrics/journal/383#

Papers that DO NOT follow the guidelines and format of Pediatric Surgery International will be REJECTED for review by the PSI (JSPS Issue) Publication Committee office.

Submission items are to be submitted to the PSI (JSPS Issue) Publication Committee office to “BOTH” the following e-mail addresses:

yama@juntendo.ac.jp (Atsuyuki Yamataka)
jutakai@juntendo.ac.jp (Junko Takai)

(Failure to do so may result in your paper being rejected for review)

  • Submission items MUST include ‘SEPARATE’ files for:

    1. Cover letter
    2. Manuscript Text
    3. Tables/Artwork

    - Each figure/table should be on a separate file, e.g. 3 figures = 3 separate files.

    - Figures must be in JPEG or TIFF format. Do not embed figures into MS Word. Each figure should have a concise caption describing accurately what the figure depicts. Include the captions in the text file (figure legends) of the manuscript, not in the figure file.

    - Use the table function in MS Word, not spreadsheets (i.e. MS Excel), to make tables. For each table, please supply a table caption (title) explaining the components of the table.

  • In the “Materials and Methods” section, institutional names should NOT be given, since all manuscripts will be reviewed in a BLIND manner. If the paper is accepted for publication, institutional names may be added back in the Materials and Methods section, (if needed) by the author when making revisions.
  • Documentation of the IRB or Animal Care committee approval should be included in the methods section of the manuscript. Approval must be documented in the text.
  • Manuscripts submitted for publication must contain a statement to the effect that all human studies have been approved by the appropriate ethics committee and have therefore been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki. It should also be stated clearly in the text that all persons gave their informed consent prior to their inclusion in the study. Details that might disclose the identity of the subjects under study should be omitted. The PSI (JSPS Issue) Publication Committee office reserves the right to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the above-mentioned requirements. The author will be held responsible for false statements or failure to fulfil the above-mentioned requirements.
  • Authors must indicate whether or not they have a financial relationship with the organization that sponsored the research. This note should be added in a separate section before the reference list. If no conflict exists, authors should state: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.
  • Mark the location of the figures/tables in the margin at the same level where they appear in the text (This is easy to do in Microsoft Word, using the insert command, then choosing the text box and typing "figure 1", etc.).
  • Separate files of the submission items are to be submitted to the PSI (JSPS Issue) Publication Committee office to “BOTH” the following e-mail addresses:

    yama@juntendo.ac.jp (Atsuyuki Yamataka)
    jutakai@juntendo.ac.jp (Junko Takai)

Please put the first author's last name in the subject box of the e-mail
    (e.g., Subject: Jordan PSI manuscript).

You will receive an e-mail confirming that the publications committee has received your manuscript. However, if you do not receive a confirmation e-mail with 5 working days, please contact the Publication Committee office at both e-mails provided.
  • Artworks are to be submitted as SEPARATE JPEG files and must not include any description. Name your figure files with "Fig" and the figure number, e.g., Fig1.eps. If the JPEG is > 2 megabytes, the file size for the picture should be reduced until it is < 2 megabytes. The total size of the attachments in a single e-mail must be < 10 megabytes.
  • Manuscripts coming from non-native English speakers must be accompanied by a signed document that indicates the manuscript has been checked and proof-read by a native English speaker. This document should be signed by BOTH the proof-reader and the author of the manuscript.
  • Manuscripts coming from non-JSPS members will need to be sponsored from a JSPS member. Information of “Sponsor” (a JSPS member) such as name, institution, e-mail address, telephone and fax number MUST be provided.

The ultimate number of papers accepted for publication will depend upon the number of manuscripts received by the due date, inclusion of the mandatory IRB or animal services application number, and the ability to conform to the overall page limit of the issue as dictated by Pediatric Surgery International. In addition to being reviewed for mandatory compliance with deadlines and guidelines of manuscript preparation, papers will be assessed for originality, importance, scientific merit, study design, and writing quality.

Presentation of your paper is not a guarantee of acceptance for publication.

Should you have any questions about the manuscript review process, or if you have not received an e-mail confirming its receipt, please contact the PSI (JSPS Issue) Publication Committee office by e-mail.

Thank you very much for you kind cooperation.
